The Family Tree |
|
The earliest generations lived in Maryland from the seventeenth century to the nineteenth century. James Long, veteran of the War of 1812, moved to Ohio in the early nineteenth century and then took his new family to Mississippi. As a circuit preacher, James Long was highly respected. Two of his sons, John Murphy Long and James Dalby Long, moved to Winn Parish prior to the War Between the States. A third son, Charles Whatley Long, stayed in Mississippi only to die during the War. Caroline Blackwell Long, Charles’ widow, moved to Winn Parish with her children after the war. The youngest son, Michael W. Long, also moved to Winn Parish at a later time. There are many stories to tell about the famous Louisiana Longs as well as their shirt-tail kin. Check back soon because many family members have been researching for many years and we’ve got a lot to tell! |
